"Hi Ariel and others, My Top DC Music Lists!!!" , posted Mon 10 Jul 19:58user profileedit/delete messagepost reply

Hi Ariel,

I know it has been several days now since you mentioned this topic, but since Iīm taking Top Lists, especially DC Music very seriously, (lol, but I do) - I had to wait until I really had time to think through this. I know itīs 8 windows-pages, but remember itīs much faster to read them than write them...

Whatīs not so "lol" is that I had written almost about a couple of hours right now about this, but so error suddenly came onscreen, and threw EVERYTHING I had written out of the window.

...And my old "Windows 95" Computer was tempted to follow - Through a completly differnet window that is!

Anyways, whatīs a couple of lost hours. I have on earlier occations lost several months of hard work, and is something I nerver will get back (all though, Iīm "slowly" working on it)...

Enough of that stupid "introduction". Letīs put on a happy face, and let me write "again" (lol) that I finally have found what Iīm looking for... Which is my "feelings" of the DC Music cut up into Top Lists...

I have to choose Lists, because I "believe" that "I canīt break away" "all the way" into one list. "One more night", wouldnīt help either. Not even "A Thousand Years"...

"Whatīs on my mind" right now is that I "Think" not even Ethan Hunt could POSSIBLE "breaking out" this mission. How can I compare fast good-mood songs like So far, so good against (all odds)...Preformer Phil Collinsī I donīt care anymore, which is more of an mysterious mood-song.

Ballads like They wonīt go when I go, is the same problem to ranked together with those. I simply wonīt "Go" there...

I notice that this isnīt written like the first time at all though. Letīs just jump "Straight to the heart"...of this topic. Or else if I know myself correctly, (and I do) - I will have a big problem to "find a way to my heart"-topic.

Remember that these first lists is based on how much I like these artists for "all" their work, and not just their "DC Music songs"...

Top 10 Male Artists:

1. Phil Collins
2. George Michael
3. Michael Jackson
4. Peter Gabriel
5. Richard Marx
6. Billy Joel
7. Sting
8. Terence Trent DīArby
9. Seal
10.Lenny Kravitz (like more Rod Stewart songs, but the best Lenny songs makes him "fly away" from good old Rod in the rhythm of the heart)...

Besides, "Forever Young" that Rod claims isnīt working anymore. Sorry Rod, I liked you good enough in the 80īs...

These are those most important artist that I collect their cds, and love alot of songs etc. For example Frank Sinatraīs DC songs, could make him a very close runner up here, but since he has so much music I donīt have, he canīt be compared to these artist that Iīm a true fan of!!!

"So far, So Good" - Next Category Continues...

Top 10 Female Artists:

1. Whitney Houston
2. Alannah Myles
3. Tanika Tikaram
4. Gloria Estefan
5. Cher
6. Laura Brannigan
7. Aretha Franklin
8. Annie Lennox
9. Bonnie Tyler
10.Sheena Easton

Top 10 Groups:

1. U2
2. Bon Jovi
3. Genesis
4. Van Halen
5. Talking Heads
6. Big Pig
7. Johnny Clegg & Savuka
8. The Doors
9. Pet Shop Boys
10. Enigma

So for the most diffucult one. Albums! - Remember that I rank after the entire album as one unity, and not based on which DC song/s it include! The entire album has to be good to get the extra points...

These is truly the "must have" list, and I have choisen to make a Top 20 list this time. LOL, even my favorite U2 didnīt make the Top 10. Well, if the "I still havenīt found what Iīm looking for"
-version on Rattle and Hum could have counted, suddenly that album would be on #1

And please remember that I serioulsy like All of this albums so equal that for example if some of these albums only included one more of their best songs, it could jump SEVERAL steps up this list!!! - O.K. Here I go:

Top 20 Album Lists:

1. Faith - George Michael
2. Slippery When Wet - Bon Jovi
3. 5150 - Van Halen
4. ...But Serioulsy - Phil Collins
5. So - Peter Gabriel
6. Introducing the hardline according to - Terence Trent DīArby
7. Bonk - Big Pig
8. Repeat Offender - Richard Marx
9. Alannah Myles - Alannah Myles
10. Seal – Seal
11.Joshua Three – U2
12. Listen Without Prejudice - George Michael
13.Security - Peter Gabriel
14.Thriller - Michael Jackson
15.Hello, I must be going - Phil Collins
16.Speaking in Tongues - Talking Heads (+ "Psycho Killer" would make it #9?
17.Cruel Crazy Beautiful World - Johnny Clegg & Savuka
18.Cuts Both Ways - Gloria Estefan
19.- 5 - Lenny Kravitz
20.Out of Order - Rod Stewart

Oh my God this was difficult. Strange not to see Dance Into The Light making it here though. Had a very close race with Laura Branniganīs Self Control for #21. (Besides Dance into the light, Ironically Collins, Gabriel and Genesis had to leave out one album each in my Top 20!!! - That only proves that I stick to the fact that I must love many songs in these album, when my all-time favorite song ever "In the air tonight" have to "Face Value"...on this list.

Now over to actually the easiest DC Music list. But you have to remember that I thought I was ranking after formost the DC Scores, but since they are so equal, itīs actually ranked after the scores each composer have scored in his career that I like that finally desides most of this choise...

"Young Sherlock Holmes" is my Favorite Score, and East of Eden Finale is definetly my favorite scored theme - But how can Bruce Broughton or Lee Holdridge compete with these guys:-???

1. Bernard Herrmann
2. James Horner
3. John Williams
4. Jerry Goldsmith
5. Alan Silvestri
6. Randy Newman
7. Angelo Badalamentri
8. Harold Faltermeyer
9. James Newton Howard
10. Bill Conti

(As for Film-Composers generally Brougthon or Holdridge couldnīt make a Top 20 either...:-O - Very sad to see Marc Shaiman not make the Top 10 list. How can I do that to him???

Whatīs next? Well, first I try listing DC Film-Scores before I begin on the actual "song-lists" in different categories... I certainly hope anyone actually find this interesting...???

The Film-Scores again is after how many songs I like, and the quality of the score as one complete unity!!! For example DC themes from Cousins and The Prince of Tides is extremly lovable, but the complete scores is the same old, same old and boring compared to these ones:

1. Young Sherlock Holmes - Bruce Broughton
2. Aliens - James Horner
3. Psycho - Bernard Herrmann
4. Vertigo - Bernard Herrmann
5. Back to the future - The Complete Score - Alan Silvestri
6. Cocoon - James Horner
7. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - John Williams
8. Rocky - Bill Conti
9. North By Northwest - Bernard Herrmann
10. Fletch - Harold Faltermeyer

I serioulsy think I must stop on 10. Itīs too difficult. Here will Cousins and The Price of Tides fit in? Probable even after The Man from Snowy River that has two very different DC songs, but still before Medicine Man etc. Letīs just skip the worries...

The Twilight Zone the Movie is high up there as well... The problem here is off course that I on MOST on these scores go on memory lane to the movies as equal to the DC Illusions!!! As for Illusions, Snow "scores" big time for me - the movie donīt!!! Snow is The Prince of Tides by the way in case someone actually donīt know... Citizen Kane is the Bibel (LOL)in movies, and the score to itīs film, but In The Flying Special it doesnīt mean as much as "Snow" does in Unexplained Forces.

Iīm not sure if this was explained good enough, but you simply canīt "force" me to choose here! - Not even Yoda can give me enough force...

Yeah, Yeah, I know - Yada, Yada, "Yoda" & Co.

Letīs take the so-called "pop-film-scores" as well. You know, those that isnīt the instrumental Original scores by the composer, but songs used on a soundtrack...

1. James Bond (You have no idea how much I love the bond-songs)!
2. Back to the future (Also on Top 10 without the DC Music)!!!
3. Footloose
4. Blues Brothers
5. Salsa (I know, song/dance movies rules here - Whereīs Grease)?
6. Bill & Ted Exellent Adventure (the "pig" scores "big")!!!
7. The Beach (Use more Badalametri, DC!...Remember Twin Peaks...?
8. Go (Iīll go with this choise, all though...
9. About Last Night - (...this one could have been in front)
10.Beverly Hills Cop I & part II (A Tie)!!!

Just for fun, Iīll made a tie here. Simply because "Axel F" from part I and "I want your sex" from part II is type of songs I donīt like to compare. As for the rest of those albums the songs quality is also pretty much close, but part I wins just barely.

The Tie since I like George Michael better than Harold Faltermeyer.

Off Course, several great DC songs has appaired on a soundtrack, especially Classical Themes, but Iīm only choosing soundtracks that I personally like to listen to here. Not because of one simple DC song!

And know, Ladies & Gentlemen... - George Michael...īs songs and the others. This was extremly difficult. No kidding. Iīm not usually going around having just a few DC song favorites. I love them all. To choose the best of them, again I had to choose categories, and since I had a day off from work today, and the sun was shining and I had nothing specific to do - I just took myself one of those DC Music Maraton again.

After listening to those songs with lyrics, and some of the instrumental ones for several hours this moring, day, and night, Iīve come to this conclusion.

Please donīt make any comments like "how can you like that song better that this song etc. As you may understand, it could be an insult the result to hurt feelings. Iīm just beeing myself here, and trying my best to let you know about my personal relation to this songs. And itīs personal indeed.

You know after having a long-time "affair" with songs from for example the Alcatraz-Special, itīs very difficult for a new great song like Livinī La Vida Loca to come infront. Some songs are from my favorite artists, some are song I just have heard from DC Shows, while others do I have a close passionate relationship to from the movies.

In short, I wasnīt aware of this problems so much as Iīm today. Itīs like some songs reach you on differnet type of levels at the same time. Itīs these songs I have tried to pick out here. To make a Top 200 song list or something like that is just out of the question, because I would never find the correct answer in myself...

Here are the most important DC songs that includes lyrics. None Instrumental songs competes for a place on these lists:

Top 30 Fast "Good Mood" Tracks:

1. Nation
2. I canīt break away
3. You give love a bad name
4. Dance little sister
5. So far, So Good
6. Livinī on a prayer
7. Burning down the house
8. Magic Carpet Ride
9. Killer
10.Crazy (To actually have both Seal-songs on Top 10 makes me)...
11.Satisfied (That song made sense as well)!
12.Rub you the right way
13.I want your sex (better place if it was more DC-memorable)
14.Letīs hear it for the boy (...From the Alcatraz-Special)
15.No lookinī Back (...now, Iīm on "memory lane" here, so I)...
16.Think (I have to put all these 3 songs in now. Sorry, Ricky)!
17.Livinī La Vida Loca
18.Dreams
19.My name is not susan
20.(I just) Died in your arms (if only more "DC-used")...?
21.Get on your feet (this one too)!
22.Chicos Y Chicas (Another example on how memory lane donīt...)
23.Fly Away (so this song for some reason canīt "beat it")
24.Dela
25.Cruel Crazy Beautiful World (sometimes in front of Dela).
26.Precious
27.Whatīs on your mind (Or Mine I must say! - Not on my Top 25)?
28.Hypnotize me
29.Breaking Out
30.Holding out on a hero (I love it, but abit sick of it now)!

Tighten Up and Elegibo probable #31-32, but letīs stop here, before Iīm closing into techno and rap here!!!

Now lets move over to the Mysterious Mood-Tracks:

Top 10 List:

1. In the Air Tonight
2. Find a way to my heart
3. Lay your hands on me
4. I donīt care anymore
5. Mama

First part was very easy and similar though...

6. Twist in my Sobriety
7. In the name of the father
8. Thriller
9. The Rhythm of the heat
10.On more chance(you wont get to see more techno-style here)!

P.S. You know, Techno and rap isnīt me, but Smack my ***** up is actually kind of cool though... But I want make an own category in it!

On the other hand, I have made a category called ballads...

Top 10 DC Music Ballads:

1. Father Figure (this rankering is not based on the Illusion;-)
2. I still havenīt found what Iīm looking for
3. They wonīt go when I go
4. Porcelain
5. In your eyes
6. Weekend in New England
7. You light up my life
8. Forever Young
9. Delicate
10. One more night

This was the easiest song-list to make.

Mostly because I havenīt much more than these songs to choose from either, when since Iīm not including the oldies.

And why is that? - Because here they are!

Oldies Top 10 List:

1. Goldfinger (actually + all DC bond-songs)
2. Wonderful World
3. Angelina
4. Young at heart
5. All the way
6. (your love keeps lifting me) Higher and Higher
7. The Twist
8. Rock around the clock
9. (I got you)Dangeling on a string
10. But not for me (Actually + All DC Gershwin-songs)...

If you think Iīm gonna rank songs from movies, youīre Crazy. The scores is difficult enough. Still there are so many great artist that hasnīt been mentioned.

Most suppriced about Neil Diamond and Michael McDonald. Itīs not that I donīt like them!!!

Scores like The Abyss and 2010 are extraordinary, but not "qualified" on my lists!!!

BTW: I havenīt even touch the subject of Classical Music yet. Man, I knew it. These lists is truly a Complete day project!

Letīs try to do this "a little" quickly, o.k.?

Top 10 DC Classical Comporsers: (based on all the DC songs they have made. This way itīs almost an "song-list" as well;-)

1. Mozart (Eine kleine nachtmusik and marriage of figaro)!!
2. Beethoven (Requiem and Symphony No. 4)!!
3. Holst (The Planets)!!!
4. Orff (O fortuna from Carmina Burana is my favorite piece)!
5. Rossini (William Tell and The Barber of Seville)!!
6. Brahms (Hungarian Dance No. 5) = (Shrinking Man in Bag)
7. Liszt (Hungairan Rhapsody No. 2) = (Cutting Lazer)
8. Ponchielli (Dance of the Hours) = (Vanish Giraffe Neck)
9. Handel (The Hallejujah Chorus) = (Orson Welles beginning)...
10. ??? (??? ???:-( = (Orson Welles ending)

This is the Classical piece I donīt know of, and itīs unbelivable to live with (lol). Anyways, since Iīm out of DC Classical Comporsers, this "Mysery-Composer" can be the #10!

This rankering was harder that I thought. Ponchielliīs Dance of the Hours is actually better than Lisztīs Hungarian Rhapsody, but not the "parts" used as DC Music. The Dance...is so much more. (BTW:Seen in Fantazia)...

Listz entire Hungarian Rhapsody is good, esecially those two first ones, so he should become in front of Ponchielli...(BTW:H.Rhapsody No.2 is seen in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?)...

But both looses correctly to Brahmsī H. Dance No. 5, which is extra good preformed in DCīs Illusion. (BTW:Seen in The Great Dictator, were itīs preformed at perfection by Charlie Chaplinīs movements as well)!!!

Rossini had two songs in Brahms-Quality, Orff has the best piece there is, but Holst has wonderful 3 DC songs!!!

Both Mozart and Beethoven is my true favoirte Classical Comporser with much more than the DC Music "Classics"...

Requeim is almost Orff-Quality, and Mozart is the Comporer of the Millenium!!!

As for this Century of Classical Music, we might say Leroy Anderson, Phillip Glass and Mark Isham is closest of DC Music Material???

Yes, I finally could mentioned those 3 composers as well. Would feel the same leaving them out. Leroyīs songs are true Classics (DC song is the Typewriter), and Glassīs Anima Mundi is even better than Scott Fitzgeraldīs Thunderdrums. (So is he mentioned as well). The DC song from Anima Mundi was used in the Unexplained Forces intro and the barkley house. Actually, in The Truman Show as well, but still good enough for that Top 10 List!

Man, I have written down good music today...and tonight(:o)

I truly hope some have bothered to read this. Especially you, Ariel! Youīd asked for this, and I knew it would come to this!

Why do you think I have NEVER tried to make this list before?

It takes time!!! Oh, well, I had some time to kill. And man, what I "Killer" I have been. I hope whoever reading this think it Rocks!!!???

Beacause Iīve been Rockin and Rollin for a long time now, and "I canīt Dance" anymore. Upps, I canīt even make DC Links anymore. "I donīt Care anymore". This has been the Ulitmate "Dance of the hours" when Iīm on a roll like this.

"one oīclock, two oīclock, Three etc. who know how long?

What can you say? - "Whatīs on your mind" - Iīll say: DC Music!!

For a long time I can say. Canīt say For the longest time, because itīs the "Root Beer Rag" that is the DC Music from Billy Joel!!!

That song is more comparable to the Typewriter though.

Talking about Typewriting... Do I sence the feeling for an End soon? I think I know why...(the dog howls at the moon)?

I could "tell her about it" (Billy Joel), but if she says "Donīt tell me" (Van Halen), I`ll get it.

When I start riming like this, itīs late (at night) and the danger of beeing too "late" to stop is (a fright)...?

Anyways, Iīll save more DC related link-connnections for some other (and earlier) times.

Iīm simply to tired to making up any more rimes.

And you must be "too tired" to read any more of this,

so I will be kind enough to make you not need to pretend -

That youīre interested to read any more of this,

But hopefully it was "interesting" (almost) up to here...The End

...re(The D(ude/Definetly).C(ool/Crazy). Music Guy"

The Signature wasnīt suppose to be "interesting" this time, so I just made an "intern-clue" to Jeff...

Heīs usually the only person reading my long posts anyway.

But perhaps "Itīs an Unusual day", and somone else have checked out this post anyway?

How many, who can tell?

As long one of them is Ariel?

All of this hard work went well...

Or else it feels like all went to He...y,

the word Iīm thinking of arenīt He...aven!!!

Wow, keeping up like this and itīs suddenly Thuesday July 11!!!

Well, itīs that in Norway for almost three hours ago. And I who began listening to DC Music around noon today!

I guess itīs only one more thing to say -

Iīm actually a cool dude, but when it finally comes down to this:

Jeff wasnīt any rude, because Iīm the Craziest story-writer there is!!!

One more Top 10 list, and Iīm off o.k.?

An easy one. Top 10 Favorite DC-ending words to write right now:

1. - The
2. End -
3. Endre
4. The
5. D.
6. C.
7. (esperately)
8. (ontinuing)
9. Music
10.Guy

Good job, Endre!! (but, why don't you post your messages like in several parts (one per day or something)? My eyes hurt because of so much reading! -and I like very much to read-)...

See you soon!

Wow - I think you're 'a bit' obsessed with DC's music Endre! :-)

That could quite possibly be the longest post I've ever seen! Now we know what you were up to all weekend.

Hi all,

Thanks for reading the post. I will try to make a reply to each of you in the same post here. Promise it want be a long one this time.

Magicintern: You posted a reply first, and I can admit beeing a little obsessed with DC Music. Have been pretty much so for over a decade now. Actually it really began on the Alcatraz-Special.

Canīt explain how it started other than I was amazed at first that DC has the same taste in film-scores, artist etc. as me, + that he let me notice new ones I love today.

Over the years it has become interesting to hear whatīs next, because I always trust it to be good. I usually doesnīt think about the Illusion when I listen to most of these songs. Not as much as before though. they just have become a ("normal";-) part of my life after listen to some of these songs almost every day for many years...

I Also agreed my post should have been a hole weekend project, but it actually was just a 15 hour non-stop event. Listen to the songs the get into to right mood from about noon and for most of these hours, and then for the last few hours actually sit down and writing it.

When Iīm on a roll as Iīm calling it, I probable could have written much more, but I guess I was a little tired myself. Guess it sounds strange, but I personally doesnīt like breaks when Iīm working on writing. I want my mind to take it all there and there. I also didnīt look at any music lists (my own ego-challenge I guess), so I tried to remember all the important ones after the DC Music Marathon I just had.

Iīm simply a non-stop guy. Takes everything in the moment. Itīs the only way to finally get finished. I canīt use days to plan my posts. Iīm too much of an perfectionist. I could end up trying the entire post in rimes!!! (LOL;o)

Marjolein:

Tell me something I donīt know... Actually, Iīm not embarresed to be called unnormal. I like not to be simple and ordinary. As for my writing-style itīs not simple at all! In fact, when I truly go into the dobbel/trippel meaning word-games rimes etc. I donīt think anyone understand it even if Iīm explaining it!

I know I kind of live in my own world of writing-humour, and Iīm afraid my writings isnīt suitable for the general public.

But thanks alot for having the faith in me. I have been writing songs and poems since I was 10 or something, and "stand-up comedy" material the latest years...

Unfortunately, most of it is lost though. I havenīt taken care of all the papers when I was younger, and after my hard-disc crash last year, I will never forgive myself of all the increadible hard work got lost.

Besides, hundrads of poems and comedy have I made up just in my mind when Iīm relaxing, and never written down for keeping! Off course, what I make up in bed stayed there. I canīt in the middle of night make up my bed, stay up all night and start writing every time!

This is a huge problem. I have done it sometimes, but since I "usually" think about crazy stuff before I fall to sleep on regular baces, I simply have to forget almost everything Iīve ever "written" in my mind.

I do however have plans about writing in the future, but letīs just say Iīm working on it for the moment...

Tim C:

Yes, and I guess thatīs part of the reason why I do all of the list in one take. That someone like you can be aware of the fact that Iīm able to think through all of this non-stop by writing without any breaks.

When I first gave myself the challenge (I often do that stuff)... that I was going to make as many complete lists as possible and post it before I went to bed, these things happen. I knew that if I didnīt do it on Monday it could take weeks before Iīve got the time to pull a stunt like this again.

Jackie:

I must say Iīm mostly pleased of your reply. Your post got me thinking that itīs more important to make the posts the best way suitable for reading, so those who actually wants to read my posts are capable to do so! This post is getting a little long to though...

I guess Iīve always been unfortunately too selfish and termend to prove my non-stop writing capabillity, that I always wants to complete stuff before showing it off.

I know thatīs true, because Iīve been working and planning other "lists" for a very long time that only these old regulars have heard about...

I totally agreed that itīs better with several parts of posts over more days, than this. I probable wouldnīt write posts like this on the messageboard anymore.

Itīs not like Iīm trying to keep a "long post reputation" here. After all, in the end thatīs not a good thing. Off course, I want people to read what I write. Thatīs the hole point of writing.

As for answering how I remember all this, itīs actually simple. And I know Iīm very greatful for it.

Itīs called memory. Good, very good, exellent etc. If I had to choose only one thing about me that I could you know, brag about - It has to be the memory.

And if I also had to choose one thing quite opposite, I guess it would be my use of that memory.

Pretty much what I have done since I was a kid (confessing to that "Unnormal" part here) is to use as much memory-brain celles as possible devided on mostly Movies, alot to Music, and naturally the one and only DC for the TV Specials including DC Music, which is my favorite topic in the world.

This mean I donīt know anything about anything else! O.K. Not exactly true, but Iīm afraid itīs probable more true that you imagine...

For example throuhout my school-years I lived a very easy, laidback and average school-life. Didnīt hardly do homework, but saw movies and listen to music. Why read in the books? I remember enough from what the teacher are saying...

I even took just 30 minutes up to 1 hour at most on studing for the big tests. I couldnīt care less. I knew I remember enough from the school-year to get just about average grades. I simply wasnīt interested enough to work for the top grades.

Easy to regret today? Did I really need to see 2, often 3 movies a day, and listen hours of music???

You know, I still watch movies and listen to music on dayly baces, so I really donīt have time to much else besides work.

And when I finally have the extra free-time, I go straigt to DC-work. Every day I look for new songs, trying to tracking up differnt versions, still buying rare cds, and truly loving my hobby.

The absolute truth here is that none of you on this message-board have any idea about my most important DC Obsession. Off course, Iīm giving out the "Music Guy-Impression", but itīs Movies and not Music which is my main intrest.

And itīs when you people get the chance to see any of my DC Montages, that you hopefully understand why all of this takes so long. Itīs the only thing Iīm satisfied enough to be 100% proud of. As David, I live for perfection, and itīs completly true it takes years to plan and make the Grand Illusions.

I have promised Chris Kenner to send him the Montages when Iīm finished with them, but again thereīs my problem. The conclusion is that I probable should seperate them into several packages, and send him about 1 hours of time, right?

Even 1 hour is many montages, but I canīt just send him one at the time either.

My Ultimate Challange is montages by each and every TV Special, new versions of pretty much all the Illusions in every single TV Special, and a few extra montages of the Grand Illusions, Audience participation, Entire Career etc etc.

I have about 4-5 hours finished montages in my mind, but almost just half of it on tape now that still needs some fixing.

Like the Movie-Director, Iīm very eager to get my storyboards into moving pictures, so if you all wondering why Iīm not writing here so often, itīs because those montages has first priority of my spare-time.

When all this is finished, (later this year according to scheule:-), I will finally begin writing more about movies.

In short, I have stuff to fill time for years to come!

After all, writing about movies is what Iīm gonna live of for the rest of my life anyway...

P.S. Was this to long message?

Well, since I desided not going on memory lane of comedy-writing this time, I actually think this is enough for once. I canīt try to be funny all the time.
