As many have observed, that was a FANTASTIC special! I guess when you keep your fans waiting five years, you have to really pay attention to your new projects ("Perfectionist..." ). The editing and re-mixing were great, but they weren't what caught my eye.I've only really followed DC through his specials, and the occasional live show (my last live show? 1994). As I remember them, he seemed to be getting more and more aloof. He was a great performer, but there seemed to be this weird psychological "wall" between him and the audience. I'm not sure how to desribe it exactly. The old website even helped reinforce this image somewhat, IMHO. When I first saw the new website, I was happy to see that this "wall" had started tumbling down. The redesign of this site is nice, but the real triumph is how it gets DC across as a more connected, more "warm" personality. I was waiting for the special to see if this was just how I was percieving the website. The "Great Escapes" special clinched it! Having seen and heard little about Copperfield in the last 5 years, I have to say those last 5 years were VERY well spent! He seems to be a much warmer and more "authentic" as a performer now. My VCR is already hungering for the upcoming all-new special. I had to order the "Illusion" boxed set just to keep it somewhat sated until then. I hope I didn't seem to harsh of DC's past performances. He's always put on a great show! I just think he's making a stronger connection with his audiences now. Anybody else have thoughts along this line?

I agree. The last time I saw David on tour a few years ago, I must admit I was disappointed by the show. The performance was nearly 40 minutes late, and when David was on stage I felt that he had "lost" something. In fact, he seemed to be in a bad temper a couple of times when dealing with audience members. I was thinking that he was suffering from "burnout." He has always pushed himself so hard---doing hundreds upon hundreds of shows and, in the past few years, trying to juggle a relationship too. I think he was at the point where he had to take a break, freshen up, and re-evaluate his career. He seems to have done something recently to renew his enthusiasm and I think we will all enjoy the rewards of that.

hey dudes, yes, i Have noticed too among many others. I think its his new overall STYLE. I mean his new promo shots ay it all. who ever took those pictures for the media section is REALLY good. I know hwta you mean, he was always down to earth, but it seems even more so now. I saw him a few weeks ago, and i nitced a HUGE change in personnality. He was very creative withn his own work. He did ALOT of REAL IMPROVIZATIONS, that wer'nt staged, which made the show funnier. And i think adding the old webster illusion in the 2000 tour was a GREAT step and reflection of his " new style. I also noticed his show was VERY FRESH, and thats how his personality seems lately--fresh. And his dress really shows too. Those wrm color sweatshirts, jeans and cargo pants. WHat reall ySHOCKED me was when he was on Conan and he wore.....TENNIS SHOES!!!!! GASP!! I almost couldn't belive it. It was so weird. Anybody else notice that? He seems alot more happy and lighthearted lately, and its REALLY making him look alot better. see ya later

I think it all comes related with times and styles. A few years ago, David had a lot more serious/misterious image, because of the time --- using a ZIPPO to light a floating paper-rose, the kind of romantic, sensual and artistic illusions, etc. In those times the important thing was to show a misterious and sensual personality. Times have changed. That image is now old. Taking notice of the originality David has developed over the past years, he comes up with what he really is -- a person that does miracles. He wants to show you all of them. So he comes up with a new style --- according to new fashion, and comes with a personality of someone that wants not to impress you, but to show you what he does. He´s a really good performer. Full of personality. He has always had a way of taking someone´s attention (and it`s not magic) --- by his personality. Have to agree that he´s the best..
