Well everyone, I finally received the video yesterday, and I watched both tapes yesterday. Although I was fully prepare for what is on the tapes (thanks to all who provided a video review), I had mixed feelings about it. Sure, it was nice to watch "15 Years of Magic" without hearing the commentator every time the show cuts to commercial; sure, it was nice to see Claudia again; sure, I was happy to watch the entire special with such clarity. While I understand that this set of tapes could not possibly contain any new material, I was extremely disappointed in the way that it reproduced the 15 year special verbatim. And no, adding 3 illusions at the end from the Barclay House special doens't make it any better. The only thing I really got excited about was those sections between the tapes and after the 15 year special when David appears in white and talks to the camera. That's something I haven't seen!
And to span the 2hr presentation onto 2 video tapes is just a terrible thing to do - it lets people think that this is a long special that's 3-4 hours long, while everything could have easily fit onto one tape and made the price of the special much cheaper.
And honestly, I thought it would be done in a style similar to his Greatest Escape special, where David would provide behind-the-scene info and commentary on his greatest illusions. oh well.
So...I DO like the tapes, but I think it is DEFINITELY not worth the money and time I spent for it. I can spend a dollar to print myself one of those video covers, and put my taped shows (without commercials) of "15 years" and "Barclay House" into it and have something that contains everything and MORE than what CBS sent me (it would even have "The Fan" which I think is another one of his greatest).
Ok, enough venting. Sorry about that. I am still a HUGE fan of David, I am still going to finish my web site dedicated to him, and I am still going to his Atlantic City show on 7/23 and wait afterwards for his autograph. BUT THE TAPES ARE A RIP-OFF (haha, ok I'm done now. really.)
