Well, I realize the post is late, but that's because I just recently got a computer. I am an illusionist myself organizing my first tour of churches in the southeast with an illusion by Walter Blaney and some stuff being built for me by Labon Kendall (whom probably none of you have ever heard of, though he does great work). I saw DC in Greenville, SC on March 22nd, 2000 at the Bi-lo Center (incidentally, this web page listed it as Greenville, Alabama for a long time, but luckily, I figured out I could get tickets). I certainly hope DC comes back to my area more often. It had been a few years since I had last seen him over in Spartanburg. Anyway... First of all, I thought the show was the funniest I had ever seen, which was great. You don't have to cuss to be funny, though. As for the illusions, "One" was pretty cool, but I think I still like the elevator. (Call me old fashioned.) Incidentally, I could interject at this point an observation that the quality of the lighting was better, if memory serves me, in Spartanburg. "The Laser" is quite a mind-blower! I can't wait to get a look at it on TV. ;) "Grandpa's Aces" was as beautiful as ever, though I suspect the Ace trick David's grandpa taught him has "evolved" some since then. It was neat to see David do a trick that I learned from "Magic for Dummies" by David Pogue. Also, the ring on the baby shoe was especially meaningful to me because at the time I was expecting my first child (he's here, and his middle name is David). I was at the 9 o'clock show, and thought "squeeze box" deserved more applause than it got, even though I've seen it a thousand times. Passion's Prisoner, to me, looks even better with that red dress. (But don't tell my wife I said that.) The Fan was cool. Just David walked in this time, without the girl. Of course, I was distracted temporarily by the dude behind me in the blue jean jacket and long dreadlocks. What a weirdo! Why didn't he just sit down? ;) Moon Interactive is just too darn complicated for my short attention span. :( Test Conditions, apart from its merit as an illusion, was cool because David took time on his way to the balcony to slap me five. The new presentation for Martin Lewis' rising card effect is sheer brilliance. The webster segment... All I can say is where's he been all these years? He's the real star! (Of course, I'm not trying to take a "quack" at Mr. Copperfield, here.) :) Now... as for that finale... WOW! I was at first disapointed when I saw how small the stage was and knew I wouldn't get to see "Flying," (It was the first time I had ever visited the venue.) But man, did that finale make up for it! Right in front of me, there was a toddler whose mommy disappeared and he started screaming and crying "Where's mommy?" Talk about emotional! And for strong effect, The new "twist" with the whole "teleportation" idea was far and above my favorite part of the show.Kenn
When you're a Christian illusionist the difference between possible and impossible takes on a double meaning.
