Whats the legality process one must go through to use a song in their magic show? For example a song from someone like Fatboy Slim or Alan Silvestri? I'm a magicain that does parties and what not, that uses songs from these people and more. Some of the songs are sliced and edited to suit my routines. I'm just wondering when I become older,(I'm 18) Will I run into any copyright laws or somethin' messy?

Well - I believe that playing that music on private parties is perfectly legal because it is a private matter. Once you start doing it on stage - you have to pay for the rights. It can be calculated pro ticket or pro song etc. It is rather tricky and you have to check wich songs are actually copyrighted (For example Gershwin is not because he past away before more than 50 years).

Anyway - the authors love when their music is beeing played in different shows because they generally earn money with each airing. So you do not have to be afraid of any legal consequences.

Be careful with the 50 years - sometimes you have to pay to special associations or to the grandchildren of a composer for using pieces of music.
